Celebrating Basant Panchami
Basant Panchami also known as Saraswati Puja in honour of the Hindu Goddess Saraswati, is a festival that marks the preparation for the arrival of spring. The Basant Utsava (festival) on Panchami is celebrated forty days before spring, because any season’s transition period is 40 days, and after that, the season comes into full bloom. On this auspicious day, the teacher discussed the importance of this day and also made the students of Class 2 aware as to why yellow is worn on this day. The students made drawings and recited poems for this day and were very happy to recite them.

Basant Panchami is celebrated in different ways in different parts of the country. Observed as Saraswati Puja, Basant Panchami is celebrated in West Bengal and Bihar where the Goddess of knowledge is worshipped. In Punjab, Basant Panchami is celebrated with kites. Further it is also the day when we celebrate with our near and dear ones, over food and togetherness. This day was celebrated enthusiastically on a virtual platform by students of Class 3 where they were told the importance of this day through an informative video. To add sweetness to the day students made ladoos and served it to their parents.

Students of Class 4 celebrated “Basant Panchami” to mark the onset of the Spring season and also celebrated to worship Goddess Saraswati, the Goddess of knowledge and wisdom. The students attended the virtual session dressed in yellow. They spoke slogans and held up hand made yellow flowers to celebrate the occasion and enjoyed this day with great zeal and enthusiasm.
